Plot Summary
- This was an anthology series of plays carrying on in the tradition of its predecessor The Wednesday Play, presented controversial works by such writers as Dennis Potter, David Mercer, Alan Bennett, and Jim Allen, with such directors as Ken Loach, Alan Clarke, Philip Saville, and Mike Newell. Several plays in the series led to spin-off series, including Play for Tomorrow and Rumpole of the Bailey.
- In the episode "Dinner at the Sporting Club" Vinny Mathews (John Thaw) is a small time boxing promoter who struggles with his conscience as to whether or not to provide a fighter he knows is unfit against an opponent who is way out of his league.

Excalibur (1981) - As Gawain
Plot Summary
- Arthur, who is looked after by Merlin as payment for his assistance to Uther Pendragon (Gabriel Byrne) is now a humble squire and pulls Excalibur from the stone. With Merlin's counsel, he marries Guenevere, finds a champion in Sir Lancelot, subdues the knights, and builds the Round Table to unite them while his half-sister, Morgana (Helen Mirren) prepares to poison him.

Krull (1983) - As Kegan
Plot Summary
- Prince Colwyn (Ken Marshall) and his love Lyssa (Lysette Anthony), dwell in the kingdom of Krull. A monstrous dark force of evil that threatens to rule their world, kidnaps Lyssa and takes her to it's fortress. Colwyn goes on a quest to find his love, but must first find the glaive, a magical weapon that can slay the beast. With an elderly leader, plus some magicians and rogues, Colwyn finds the Dark Fortress and battles the dark forces of the Beast to rescue Lyssa and save his kingdom.
- Kegan was one of Torquil's fellow bandits who had a wife in almost every village. He was shot by a Slayer.

The Bounty (1984) - As Seaman Charles Churchill
Plot Summary
- A remake of Mutiny on the Bounty, this classic film is about the tale of the H.M.S. Bounty and the mutiny of its crew. Mr. Fletcher Christian (Mel Gibson) leads the crew in their mutiny over Captain Bligh (Anthony Hopkins) when they go a voyage to Tahiti to take breadfruit plants back for King George in England.
- Charles Churchill is the master-at-arms and the man described as "the most murderous" of the mutineers.

Ellis Island (1984) (mini-series) - As Kevin Murray
Plot Summary
- The seven-hour TV miniseries Ellis Island was adapted from a novel by Fred Mustard Stewart. Per its title, the film is a mosaic of subplots involving several European immigrants who passed through New York's Ellis Island before taking up residence in the Big Apple. Most of the characters are based on real people, notably the Irving Berlin-like musician played by Peter Riegert. Co-stars Faye Dunaway, Richard Burton (in his last film role) and Ann Jillian were honored with Emmy nominations. Ironically, this essentially American saga was largely filmed in London. Originally telecast November 11, 13, and 14, 1984, Ellis Island was re-edited and re-telecast in the summer of 1986, just in time for the Statue of Liberty Centennial.

 

A Woman of Substance (1984) (TV mini-series) - As Blackie O'Neill
Plot Summary
- This series charts the life of Emma Harte (Deborah Kerr), from kitchen maid at the beginning of the 20th Century, to respected business woman and Grandmother in the 1980's. She starts her business with a small shop, and invests in the growing textile industry in Leeds. By WWII, she is the head of a major empire. After an illegitimate daughter and two marriages, she finally meets the love of her life, Paul McGill, but their affair is cut short by a tragic accident, leaving Emma with his daughter.

The Innocent (1985) - As John Carns
Plot Summary
- A complex film that follows the lives of people in a small village in northern England just after the First World War. The main character, a young boy afflicted with epilepsy, has to cope with a father gassed in the war and a mother keen to protect him from too much reality. His hero is an educated single man in the town named John Carns, whose claim to fame is a vast collection of books. The boy forms a friendship with a slightly-older teenaged girl called Win, but the entire movie revolves around his discovery that John is carrying on an affair with a married woman in the village.

 

Arthur the King (1985) (TV) aka Merlin & the Sword - As Grak
Plot Summary
- Classic tale of King Arthur and how his wife is kidnapped by his evil sister. Lancelot is sent out to try and retrieve the lost queen and unfortunately falls in love with her. Forbidden love, revenge, family rivalry, and magic are all prominent themes.

 

If Tomorrow Comes (1986) (TV mini-series) - As Inspector André Trignant
Plot Summary
- This story focuses on two people, Tracy Whitney and Jeff Stevens. In the beginning, Tracy was in love and pregnant, with the son of an affluent family, and she was sent to prison for a crime she didn't commit. When she was released, she set out to get back at the people who framed her. Jeff is con-man. She eventually teams up with Jeff. Hot on their trail is Daniel Cooper an insurance investigator, who is also a psychotic.

Miami Vice (1986) (TV) - As Sean Carroon
Plot Summary
- Miami Vice is about Sonny Crockett, an undercover detective in the Miami Police Department and his partner Ricardo Tubbs as they infiltrate Miami's crime syndicates. Its all money, glitz, glamour and uses 80's rock and pop for the soundtracks.
- In "When Irish Eyes Are Crying", gun running and terrorism are the name of the game as the detectives try to stop an airplane from being blown out of the sky. Sonny and Rico pose as weapons buyers, and Gina falls in love with a terrorist.
- Sean Carroon is a rogue terrorist and plans his own destructive act. Gina falls in love with him before realizing that he is a terrorist.

The Mission (1986) - As Fielding
Plot Summary
- Father Gabriel (Jeremy Irons) brings christianity to the natives of Brazil. Rodrigo Mendoza (Robert De Niro) is a slaver that kills his brother in a fit of rage, and only Father Gabriel's guidance prevents his suicide. Mendoza goes to work at the mission and asks to become a priest. The church gives the land to the Portuguese which will allow slavers in again. Mendoza breaks his vows and organizes the natives to resist while Gabriel warns him to help them.

Plot Summary
- Two-part, four-hour followup to "A Woman of Substance" with Deborah Kerr, now playing Emma Harte at age 80 in the last winter of her life and dealing with her granddaughter Paula, (played by Jenny Seagrove who appeared as young Emma in the original show) as well as her respected advisor Henry Rossiter (John Mills) and Blackie O'Neill

Her whole life goes to pieces : her career ends abruptly and her husband betrays her with another woman and her favourite pupil decides to leave for a tour in the USA. Plot Summary
- A lecturer has an extra-marital one night stand and contracts HIV. The movie shows how he tells his wife and the way in which she is forced to cope with his infidelity and the fact he has put her in danger of contracting the disease herself.

Plot Summary
- A lawyer who is defending an accused murderer, is told by his client the whereabouts of the bodies. However, being his lawyer, he is unable to reveal this information.

Plot Summary
- Martin Fallon (Mickey Rourke) is an IRA bomber who tries to blow up a troop truck but instead kills a bus load of school children. He quits the movement and goes to London to start a new life. The IRA wants him back and the local crime boss, Meehan, will only help him if he performs one last hit, on a rival crime boss. Fallon does the hit, and is seen by a catholic priest (Bob Hoskins). He refuses to kill innocents again and must escape the police without killing the priest who can identify him.

Suspect (1987) - As Carl Wayne Anderson
Plot Summary
- A judge commits suicide, and his secretary is found murdered. A homeless deaf-mute man, Carl Anderson is arrested for her murder. Public defender Kathleen is assigned by the court as his lawyer. She sets to find the real killer, and gets help from the congressional advisor, Eddie Sanger who is called to be on the jury panel. Together they discover a dangerous circle of corruption in high places.

Plot Summary
- Jennie Lee (Justine Bateman - from Family Ties), is the leader of a four-girl/one-guy rock band who's first real gig is an all-summer job playing at a resort club. They get an offer to play in Europe and might become famous. But they really aren't ready for it.
- Martin Falcon is the owner of the bar that the band plays at and Jennie Lee falls in love with him.

The Dead Pool (1988) - As Peter Swan
Plot Summary
- The fifth and final Dirty Harry movie, where Harry (Clint Eastwood) is added to the "Dead Pool". It's a list of a group of famous people that a movie crew makes bets on as to who will die first. When a serial killer starts offing the celebrities on the list in various bizarre fashions, Harry realizes that eventually he'll be next.
- Peter Swan is the sleazy filmmaker that organizes the dead pool in the first place.

Plot Summary
- When Peter Plunkett's Irish castle turned hotel is about to be repossesed, he decides to spice up the attraction a bit for the 'Yanks' by having his staff pretend to haunt the castle. The trouble begins when a busload of American tourists arrive - along with some real ghosts. Among the tourists are married couple Jack and Sharon. Sharon's father holds the mortgage on Castle Plunkett, so she's hoping to debunk the ghosts. Jack, on the other hand, after meeting pretty ghost Mary, is very eager to believe. Can there be love between a human and ghost? Jack and Mary are going to try and find out.

Plot Summary
- When his brother is murdered, a policeman Truman Gates (Patrick Swayze) is caught between his devotion to the law and his family's desire for revenge. When gangsters kill his brother, Truman tries the legal way, but his older brother travels to the city to seek old-fashioned vigilante justice. Truman must now choose between his family's belief in mountain justice and the duties of his law enforcement job.
- Briar Gates is Truman's older brother who has had to struggle ever since the local coal mine was closed down. Briar later ends up killed by Joey in a shootout after seeking revenge.

Darkman (1990) - As Dr. Peyton Westlake / Darkman
Plot Summary
- A scientist on the verge of a major discovery in synthetic skin has his laboratory demolished by a sadistic gang led by Robert G. Durant. Dr. Peyton Westlake is burned beyond recognition and left for dead. He undergoes an experimental procedure that removes all feelings in his nerve endings, that also causes severe psychological trauma. As Darkman, he uses synthetic skin to assume alternate identities and seek revenge against his assailants. Eliminating the gang members one by one, Darkman works his way up to Durant, and then finds out that the real leader is an unknown business man. He confronts him in a battle amongst the girders of a brand new building.

Under Suspicion (1991) - As Tony Aaron
Plot Summary
- In 1959 Brighton, disgraced cop turned private detective Tony Aaron works largely on falsifying adulteries for use as evidence in divorce cases. He involves his wife as the fictional co-respondent for painter Carlo Stasio but the pair are shot dead in the hotel room. In charge of the case is Frank, Tony's ex-partner still on the Brighton force. His most likely suspects are Angeline, Stasio's mistress who is set to inherit his house and pictures, and Tony himself, parts of whose story don't seem to add up.

- In 1940, New York, secretary Linda Voss suspects her boss is a spy. When America enters WWII, and his key operative in Berlin is killed, Linda convinces her boss to let her go undercover. Plot Summary
- When Jack and Sally announce that they're splitting up, this comes as a shock to their best friends Gabe and Judy. Maybe mostly because they also are drifting apart and are now being made aware of it. So while Jack and Sally try to go on and meet new people, the marriage of Gabe and Judy gets more and more strained, and they begin to find themselves being attracted to other people.

Plot Summary
- Jonas is a fraudulent faith healer, who uses all the tricks in the book to con the people attending his shows. Jonas and his team of helpers, including Jane who is in need of some romance, travel the country stopping at big towns and cities to put on their show. When one of the trucks breaks down in a small town, Jonas is quick to accept the challenge of making money in this town. His other goal is to seduce Marva, a waitress in the town, but she's a hard nut to crack, as is Will, the local sheriff who's determined to expose Jonas as a fraud.

Plot Summary
- Based on the novel of the same name by Edith Wharton, it is about a husband and wife (Ethan and Zeena), who need an extra hand around the house due to Zeena's debilitated body and constant illness. The young woman who joins them is a beautiful, spirited person. She and Ethan fall in love much to the dismay of Zeena.

Plot Summary
- When Bessie Faro (Andie MacDowell) investigates the death of her husband Johnny (Viggo Mortensen) in a plane crash in Mexico, she finds that his business is in the red and that he had been stashing large sums of money in bank accounts all over the world. As she begins systematically recovering her husband's money, she discovers that someone else has beaten her to some of the accounts. She goes to Cairo to find some answers and if Johnny is really dead.
- Dr. Fergus Lamb "Feed the World" campaign activities were somehow connected with Bessie Faro's late husband. He meets Bessie during her travels.

Schindler's List (1993) - As Oskar Schindler
Plot Summary
- A Steven Spielberg film that tells the true story of Oskar Schindler. He employs 1100 Jews in his crockery factory during the Holocaust. Schindler’s Jewish accountant (Ben Kingsley) serves as his conscience, as he conducts business with a cruel Nazi commander (Ralph Fiennes).
- Oskar Schindler was a vain and greedy German businessman who was once a Nazi party member, but becomes an unlikely humanitarian during the Nazi reign by turning his factory into a refuge for Jews.

Nell (1994) - As Dr. Jerome 'Jerry' Lovell
Plot Summary
- A woman is brought to civilization after spending her life in the wilds by Dr. Jerome Lovell . Nell (Jodie Foster), was raised in the cabin by her late mother, who was incapacitated by strokes (Nell speaks English, but distorted). Nell had no contact with other human beings and Lovell brings in a psychiatrist, Dr. Paula Olsen to help determine what should be done for Nell; Olsen thinks that Nell should be committed to an institution, but Lovell demands a period of observation instead. When it becomes obvious that the courts will demand that Nell be hospitalized for psychiatric observation, Lovell and Olsen take it upon themselves to gently introduce Nell to the outside world.

Plot Summary
- In the highlands of Scotland in the 1600's, Rob Roy tries to lead his small town to a better future, by borrowing money from the local nobility to buy cattle for the market. When the money is stolen, he is forced into a Robin Hood type lifestyle to defend his family and honor.
- Rob Roy is the title character and a cattle driver. He is the proud head of a Highlands clan who takes the loan from the royal Marquis of Montrose.

Before and After (1996) - As Ben Ryan
Plot Summary
- When teenage son Jacob is being accused of murdering his girlfriend, the well-respected and close-knit Ryan family is in turmoil. Jacob flees, father Ben destroys possible evidence, the village community turns hostile and mother Carolyn is forced to temporarily close her doctor's practice. Then Jacob gets arrested and soon finds himself and his family entangled in a web of truth, trust and lies, all on his way to court.

Plot Summary
- After the disastrous defeat of Irish rebels by superior British forces during the Easter Week rebellion of 1916, Michael Collins develops new strategies for the independence of Ireland. His tactics include what is now recognized as urban guerrilla tactics and organized assassinations of G-Men, those Irish who work as informers for the British, and later members of British intelligence. Although Collins is conflicted about the necessity of this violent course, by 1921 the British are willing to negotiate and Sinn Fein President Eamon de Valera sends a reluctant Collins to London to negotiate a settlement. When Collins returns with a compromise of a divided Ireland and an Irish Free State, not a Republic, he is vilified by de Valera and repudiated by lifelong friend Harry Boland after Boland learns that his girlfriend Kitty Kiernan is in love with Collins, not him. Collins is now faced with civil war as he struggles against those who insist on complete freedom for all of Ireland.

Les Misérables (1998) - As Jean Valjean
Plot Summary
- In France, the poor are in the middle of a revolution and Valjean who is imprisoned for 19 years for stealing bread, must flee a police officer and former prison guard named Javert. The pursuit encompasses both men's lives. Meanwhile Valjean takes responsibility for Fantine, one of his employees who has had a baby (Cosette) out of wedlock. Years later Cosette falls in love with a revolutionary and they all get involved in a battle between the rich and the starving with devastating results.
- Jean Valjean is an ex-convict who several years after his parole becomes mayor.
